I was searching through the required blog list when one blog in particular caught my eye. The blog was located on the Naked Conversations blog (now called Global Neighbourhoods, I believe). The title was "Egyptian blogger sentenced to 4 years" and this immediately caught my attention.
According to the blog, a young man of only 22 years old was sentenced to four years in prison just because of something he said that was unfavorable to Azhar University and other higher ups.
This completely blows my mind and it is hard to believe since we are pretty "spoiled" here in the U.S. It amazes me that on my blog I can choose to write whatever I feel and criticize whomever without the fear of punishment. As U.S. citizens this is one thing we should appreciate. The arrest of this young man shows a great deal of cultural difference. Rights involving speech is an important area that many countries need to advance on. Freedom of speech can be an important step towards other freedoms that citizens may be lacking. I do not know much about Egyptian law and their way of life, but I do know this is true in many other nations and gaining freedom of speech could be a stepping stone towards other freedoms and hopefully an improvement in human rights overall. I hope that this young man keeps fighting and doesn't give up.

First Wikipedia Edit
I have just made my first edit to a wikipedia article. The first article I chose to edit was one about Springfield Township, Union County, New Jersey. The reason I chose this article is because Springfield is my home town and where I spent my entire childhood through high school. Initially when I read the article the first thing I saw was the population for 2000. I realize that there is no data about the exact population now, but I was curious to see how rapidly the town is growing because I know that there has been some over crowding in the school systems since I graduated from high school in 2003. So I added this sentence: According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population estimate for 2005 is 14,738. This way it can give the reader a sense of how Springfield is growing. The link to the article is Springfield Township, feel free to check it out!

Now I'm just gonna briefly talk about myself and why I started this blog. I am a senior marketing major at the University of Delaware. I started this blog for a class called BUAD477: Information Technology Applications in Marketing. Honestly, I am doing this blog because it is required for this course and I never thought I would be doing a blog. But, I have to say that so far it's not too bad and I think it's going to be a good experience. Here is the link to the course website in case you want to learn more about the class, BUAD477 , So..enjoy!
Ok, let's see if this link will work...the link i'm gonna choose is SaveDarfur just because I believe it is such an important issue and if for some reason someone sees this and is curious and happens to click on it and wants to learn more about the situation in Darfur and possibly decide to help in some way, then that would be amazing.
